When you order from a restaurant on WhatsApp, the store may later send you offers, new menu announcements or festival specials. If you do not want these, you can opt out in one reply. Your order updates are not affected.
Opting out of offers
- Open the chat with the restaurant.
- Reply to any promotional message with the word STOP. Some stores' messages say which word to reply with; if so, use that.
- Depending on the store, you may get a short confirmation that you will no longer receive promotional messages from them.
If a reply does not work, or the message does not mention an opt-out, simply type "Please stop sending me offers" in the chat. The restaurant team reads it and marks your number as opted out.
Opting out applies to that one restaurant. If you ordered from several stores, opt out with each one.
What you will still receive
Opting out stops marketing messages only. You will still get messages that are about your own orders:
- Order confirmations and payment links for orders you place
- Status updates: preparing, out for delivery, delivered
- The rating message after delivery, if the store sends one
- Replies from the restaurant when you message them
These stop on their own when you stop ordering. If you want no messages at all from the number, you can block it in WhatsApp, but then you cannot order from that store on WhatsApp either.
Opting back in
Changed your mind, or missed the Diwali offer? Message the restaurant and say you would like to receive offers again. They can add you back. Whether a new order re-enables offers on its own depends on the store, so it is best to ask.
Common questions
I replied STOP but got another offer. Why?
A message that was already scheduled may still go out shortly after you opt out. If offers continue after a day or two, message the store directly and ask them to remove you. You can also report the message to WhatsApp using the options in the chat.
How did the restaurant get my number?
You messaged them to place an order, or entered your number at checkout on their store page. Restaurants using this kind of ordering only message numbers that have contacted them or ordered from them.
Does opting out delete my order history?
No. Your past orders remain with the restaurant so they can handle refunds or questions. Opting out only changes whether they send you promotional messages.
