Many restaurants now take orders directly on their own WhatsApp number. There is no app to install and no account to create. You chat with the restaurant the way you chat with a friend, and your order lands straight in their kitchen.

This page walks you through a first order. The exact wording of the messages depends on the store, but the steps are the same. This store runs on Tezzu, the system behind the chat and the store page, but you never need to deal with it directly.

Before you start

You need the restaurant's WhatsApp number. You usually find it on their store page, on a QR code printed on a flyer or menu, in their Instagram bio or on a sticker at the counter. Save it or tap the link, and you are ready.

If the restaurant also has an online store page, you can order there in your browser instead. Either way, order confirmations and updates arrive in your WhatsApp chat.

Placing your order, step by step

  1. Say hi. Send any message, such as "Hi" or "Menu", to the restaurant's number. The restaurant's ordering assistant replies within a few seconds with a greeting and the options for today.
  2. Open the menu. Depending on the store, you either tap buttons in the chat to browse categories or tap a link that opens the menu in your browser. Both ways work on any phone.
  3. Pick your items. Add the dishes you want and set the quantity. If a dish has choices, such as size or spice level, pick them when asked. Your cart total updates as you go.
  4. Choose delivery or pickup. Most stores deliver. Some also let you collect the order yourself. If pickup is offered, you will see it as an option.
  5. Share your address. For delivery, type your full address with a landmark, or share your location using the WhatsApp attachment button. Some stores ask for your PIN code to check whether they deliver to your area and what the delivery charge is.
  6. Pick how you want to pay. The options shown depend on the store. Common ones are UPI, card and cash on delivery. See how to pay for your order for details.
  7. Confirm. Check the summary message: items, quantity, address, delivery charge and total. If it is correct, confirm. You will get an order confirmation with an order number.

What happens after you confirm

The restaurant sees your order the moment you confirm. From then on you get a WhatsApp message each time the status changes: when the kitchen starts preparing, when the rider leaves and when it is delivered. You do not need to call to check. See how to track your order.

If you need to change something, reply in the same chat as soon as possible. Changes are easy before the kitchen starts and harder afterwards. See changing or cancelling an order.

Common questions

Do I need to download an app?

No. Everything happens inside WhatsApp, or in your phone's browser if the restaurant sends you a menu link. There is no account, password or app download.

The assistant did not understand my message. What now?

Send "Hi" or "Menu" again to restart from the beginning, or tap one of the buttons it shows. If you are stuck, type a short message describing the problem and the restaurant team will reply from the same number.

Can I order for someone else?

Yes. Enter the delivery address of the person receiving the food, and add their phone number in a note if the store asks for one. Choose online payment so the receiver does not have to pay at the door.
