Many restaurants now put a QR code on each table. Scan it, and the menu opens on your phone. You order without waiting for someone to come over, and the kitchen knows exactly which table the food goes to. Here is how it works from sitting down to being served.
Ordering from your table
- Open your phone's camera, or any QR scanner app, and point it at the code on the table. Tap the link that appears. There is no app to install.
- The restaurant's menu opens in your browser. The table number is usually already filled in from the code; if the page asks for it, enter the number printed on the table.
- Browse the menu and add items. If a dish has options, such as portion size or spice level, choose them as you add it. Everyone at the table can scan and order from their own phone, or one person can order for all.
- Review the cart and confirm. Depending on the store, you may be asked for your name and WhatsApp number so they can send you updates and the bill.
- Place the order. It goes straight to the kitchen with your table number attached.
Want to add something later? Scan again and place another order. It is linked to the same table.
Paying at the table
How you pay depends on the store. There are two common setups:
- Pay when you order. The page takes you to a secure payment screen where you can use UPI or a card. Your order is confirmed once the payment succeeds.
- Pay at the end. You order first and settle the bill at the counter or with the staff before leaving, by UPI, card or cash.
Your confirmation lists every item and the total, so you can check the bill against it.
What the status messages mean
If you gave your WhatsApp number, you receive updates as the order moves:
- Received. The kitchen has your order.
- Preparing. Your food is being cooked.
- Served. The staff have brought the food to your table and marked it as handed over. If you see "served" and something is missing from the table, tell the staff straight away so they can check with the kitchen.
There is no "out for delivery" step for dine-in orders.
Common questions
The QR code does not scan. What now?
Wipe the code, move your phone a little further away, and make sure there is enough light. If it still fails, ask the staff; they can give you the menu link or take your order by hand.
Can I use a coupon at the table?
If the store has a coupon field at checkout, yes. Some codes are limited to delivery or pickup orders. See how to use a coupon code.
Can I order from the table for takeaway?
Depends on the store. If they have a pickup option on the same menu page, you can use that. Otherwise ask the staff to pack the remaining food when you are done.
