A match day offer message is sent by pizza and burger joints, biryani kitchens, snack cafes and bars with food in the hours before a big cricket match, when a group of friends is deciding what to eat while they watch. Through the IPL season this happens three or four evenings a week, and the same pattern repeats for every India match. The one thing that makes these messages work is timing: a combo sized for a group, sent two to three hours before the first ball, with a delivery cut-off so the food lands before the match starts and the kitchen is not buried at 7:45 pm.

Tips for sending these on WhatsApp

• Timing beats wording. A message at 4:30 pm for a 7:30 pm match catches people before they decide. The same message at 7 pm reaches a kitchen that is already full and a customer who already ordered elsewhere.
• Set a realistic cut-off and say it. If the kitchen can do 40 orders between 6 and 7:30, say "order by 6:30" and close orders when you hit the number. Read peak hour management before the first big match of the season.
• Send the innings-break message only to customers who have ordered on a match night before. It is a second message in one evening, and the rest of your list did not ask for it.
• Use the same combo for the whole season. Customers learn it, staff pack it faster, and you can measure orders per match against the season campaign plan instead of guessing.
• Keep the promotional and the confirmation messages separate. The order confirmation carries the delivery slot and nothing else, so it is never confused with an offer.

When is the best time to send a match day offer message?

Two to three hours before the match starts, so around 4:30 to 5 pm for a 7:30 pm game and 12:30 to 1 pm for a 3:30 pm game. People decide on food before the match, not during it. Price the combo a little under the sum of its items so it reads as a deal, and keep the same combo across the season so your kitchen can prep it quickly during the 6 to 7:30 pm rush.

How do I avoid delivery delays on match nights?

Take pre-orders with delivery slots so the evening is spread out, state a clear cut-off in every message, and close ordering on your store page when the kitchen hits capacity.
