A daily menu message for a tiffin service goes out to subscribers every evening or early morning, from home kitchens doing 20 dabbas to services doing 300. Subscribers want to know what is coming before it arrives, and the kitchen needs to know who is skipping before it cooks. The one thing that makes this message work is consistency: the same time every day, the same short format, and a cut-off time by which a subscriber can skip or add. Once customers learn that the menu lands at 8 pm and skips close at 9 pm, the message runs the kitchen for you.
Send the next day's lunch menu by 8 or 9 pm, or the same-day menu by 7 am at the latest. Use a fixed layout: day and date, items, delivery window, and one line on how to skip or add. Keep it under 250 characters; a dabba has four or five items, not a paragraph. Subscribers have agreed to daily messages by signing up, so these need no opt-out line, but any message that sells a trial to non-subscribers does. If you run a four-week rotation, rotating menus on your store page can show tomorrow's items without retyping them each night.

- Pick one send time and never move it. 8 pm for tomorrow's menu with a 9 pm skip cut-off is the most common pattern because it gives the kitchen the count before the morning shopping.
- Use one-word replies for actions: SKIP, ADD, CHICKEN, HALWA. Staff can count replies in a chat list in a minute; sentences need reading.
- Send the menu from a WhatsApp Business API number, not a personal number with a 256-contact broadcast list. Above that count the list splits, people get missed, and the number is at risk. Taking tiffin orders on WhatsApp covers the setup.
- Put the full rotation on your store page so the daily message can stay short. On Tezzu, a rotating menu by weekday shows the right day's items when a subscriber opens the link.
- Keep the trial invite separate from the subscriber menu. Subscribers do not need the price, and leads do not need the skip instructions.
Frequently asked questions
What time should a tiffin service send the daily menu?
The evening before, between 7 and 9 pm, for the next day's lunch, with a skip cut-off an hour after the message. Morning sends are fine for same-day dinner menus but too late for lunch, since the kitchen has already shopped and started cooking. Keep the time fixed; subscribers start expecting the message and reply faster when it is predictable.
Should the daily menu message include prices?
Not for subscribers, who have already paid for the plan. Include a price only for add-ons such as a non-veg item or a sweet, and in the trial invite sent to new leads. Putting the plan price in every daily message makes the message longer and gives subscribers the feeling they are being sold to every evening.
How do I handle skip requests without losing track?
Ask for a single word, set a firm cut-off, and record each skip against the subscriber's plan the same evening so the credit is visible when they renew. If skips are tracked in a notebook, mistakes show up at renewal time as arguments about meals left. A tool that holds the subscription and the skip count in one place, such as Tezzu's dashboard with scheduled orders, removes that argument.
