WhatsApp quality rating

The WhatsApp quality rating is Meta's green, yellow or red score for a business number, based on recent blocks and reports, that sets its messaging limit.

The WhatsApp quality rating is Meta's score for a business phone number on the WhatsApp Business API, shown in WhatsApp Manager as green (high), yellow (medium) or red (low). It reflects how customers have reacted to your messages over the last seven days: blocks, reports and the reasons they give, such as "no longer needed" or "spam". The rating works together with your messaging limit, the number of unique customers you can start conversations with in 24 hours, which starts in the hundreds or low thousands, rises in tiers as you send well, and can be reduced if quality drops.

Why it matters

A low rating is the early warning before a number is restricted, and a restricted number means no campaigns and, in the worst case, no bot. Food businesses usually hurt their rating in one of three ways: sending offers to people who never opted in, sending too often (daily offers to a list that orders monthly), and sending at bad hours. Each block counts, and a few dozen blocks in a week on a small list is enough to turn green to yellow. The remedies are the same every time: clean opt-ins, a reply-STOP option, and messages people are glad to get. The post on why WhatsApp Business accounts get banned covers what happens after the rating falls.

Example

A sweet shop imports 4,000 numbers from old bill books and sends a Diwali offer. Around 200 people, who never agreed to hear from the shop, block the number within a day. The rating drops from green to red, the messaging limit is cut, and the shop's second send, planned for Dhanteras, reaches only a fraction of its list. A shop that had instead asked customers at the counter and collected 1,200 real opt-ins would have paid under ₹1,200 for the send, kept its green rating and had a list that actually orders. How to collect those opt-ins is in WhatsApp opt-in without annoying customers.

On Tezzu, campaigns are sent from your own WhatsApp number, so the quality rating they earn is attached to your number and worth protecting.
