An official business account on WhatsApp is a business number that Meta has verified as belonging to a notable, authentic business, marked by a tick next to the business name. The badge was long known as the green tick; Meta has been changing it to blue to match its other apps. With it, customers see your business name instead of a bare phone number even if they have not saved you, and the name cannot be changed casually. It requires a WhatsApp Business API account with a Meta-verified business behind it, and Meta grants it at its own discretion based on how recognisable the business is; a paid verification subscription from Meta is also offered in some markets.
Why it matters
Trust is the whole problem with a new number. When a customer gets a message from +91 98xxx with no name, they wonder if it is a scam; when it says "Sharma Tiffins" with a tick, they read it. For a restaurant running campaigns or taking payments on WhatsApp, the badge lifts reply rates and reduces "is this really you?" questions. It is also hard to get for a single-outlet business, because Meta looks for notability such as press coverage and a real online presence, so most small food businesses build trust without the tick, through a complete business profile, consistent messages and a prompt reply. The steps are laid out in how to get the WhatsApp green tick.
Example
A chain of four cafes in Hyderabad sends a festival menu to 6,000 opted-in customers. From an unverified number, some customers ask "who is this?" and a few report it. From a verified number showing the cafe's name and a tick, the same message gets fewer questions and more replies. No rupee changes hands for the badge itself on the standard route; the cost is the time to complete Meta business verification and gather proof that the brand is known. For the customer's side of the trust question, read is WhatsApp ordering safe for customers.
Tezzu connects your number to the WhatsApp Business API through Meta's embedded signup, which is a prerequisite for the badge; the verification decision itself stays with Meta.
