Zomato Commission Calculator: See What You Lose Every Month

This Zomato commission calculator is a worksheet rather than a widget, because the number that matters is in your own payout statement and no web tool can read that for you. Five inputs, four steps, and you will know what the app costs you every month, what the same orders would cost on a direct channel, and the gap between the two. It works for Swiggy and any other commission-based app in exactly the same way.

If you only want a rough figure, the ready-reckoner tables below cover the common combinations of order volume and effective rate. If you want your real number, follow the steps with your last settlement statement open.

The five inputs you need

  1. Monthly app orders. Count from the dashboard, after cancellations.
  2. Average order value. Gross order value for the month divided by the order count. Use the value before platform discounts.
  3. Contracted commission rate. The percentage in your partner agreement.
  4. Add-on percentage. GST on commission plus payment processing, expressed as a share of order value. If you do not want to work it out, use 5 to 7 percent as a placeholder and correct it later.
  5. Funded promotions. Discounts, delivery offers and ad spend you paid for in the month, as a rupee total from the statement.

The second and fifth inputs are the ones owners most often guess wrong. Average order value is usually lower than you think once small snack orders are counted, and funded promotions are usually higher because some offers were switched on by default. Our line-by-line post on what Zomato really costs a restaurant shows where each one sits in the statement.

The formula in four steps

Run it with an example restaurant: 500 orders a month, ₹360 average order value, 24 percent commission, 6 percent add-ons, and ₹9,000 of funded promotions.

  1. Gross order value. Orders times average value. 500 times ₹360 is ₹1,80,000.
  2. Commission paid. Gross value times the contracted rate. ₹1,80,000 times 24 percent is ₹43,200.
  3. Add-ons paid. Gross value times the add-on percentage. ₹1,80,000 times 6 percent is ₹10,800.
  4. Total monthly cost. Commission plus add-ons plus funded promotions. ₹43,200 plus ₹10,800 plus ₹9,000 is ₹63,000.

Divide the total by the gross value to get the effective rate: ₹63,000 over ₹1,80,000 is 35 percent. The contract said 24. That 11-point gap is the part most owners never see until they do this exercise, and it is why the figure in the agreement is a poor guide to what the app actually costs.

Ready-reckoner: monthly commission at common volumes

The table assumes ₹350 average order value and shows commission plus add-ons at three effective rates. Funded promotions are not included, so add yours on top.

Monthly ordersGross order valueAt 22 percent effectiveAt 28 percent effectiveAt 34 percent effective
150₹52,500₹11,550₹14,700₹17,850
300₹1,05,000₹23,100₹29,400₹35,700
600₹2,10,000₹46,200₹58,800₹71,400
1,000₹3,50,000₹77,000₹98,000₹1,19,000
1,500₹5,25,000₹1,15,500₹1,47,000₹1,78,500

Multiply any row by twelve for the annual figure. A restaurant doing 600 orders a month at a 28 percent effective rate pays the platform about ₹7 lakh a year. That is a useful number to have in your head the next time an account manager proposes a programme that adds two points.

The same orders on a direct channel

Now put the same orders through a channel you own. On a platform with a flat per-order fee there is no percentage. The costs are a monthly plan, the per-order fee, a payment gateway charge on online payments, and your own delivery. Assume a ₹999 plan, ₹10 per order, 2 percent on UPI and card payments, and ₹35 per delivery with your own rider or a per-trip service.

Monthly orders at ₹350App cost at 28 percent effectiveDirect: plan and per-order feesDirect: gateway and deliveryDirect totalMonthly difference
150₹14,700₹2,499₹6,300₹8,799About ₹5,900
300₹29,400₹3,999₹12,600₹16,599About ₹12,800
600₹58,800₹6,999₹25,200₹32,199About ₹26,600
1,000₹98,000₹10,999₹42,000₹52,999About ₹45,000

The direct column includes delivery for every order, which is the fair comparison. Orders that are picked up or eaten in cost ₹35 less each. Nobody moves all their orders at once, so the realistic version is to apply the difference only to the share you expect to move, typically the repeat customers. If 40 percent of 600 orders go direct, the saving is roughly ₹10,000 a month before any growth in those customers' order frequency.

What the calculator cannot tell you

Three things sit outside the arithmetic. First, discovery: the app brings customers who have never heard of you, and a direct channel does not. Count those orders as marketing spend that is worth paying for. Second, the customer list: direct orders give you numbers you can message, which turns one order into several over a year. Third, operations: direct delivery needs a rider plan, and the own delivery versus Zomato delivery comparison puts a cost on that.

The calculator's job is narrower. It tells you what you are paying today and what the same volume would cost elsewhere, so that the decision about direct ordering is made with numbers rather than a feeling that the commission is high.

What this looks like on Tezzu

The direct column in the table above is Tezzu's pricing. Plans are ₹999, ₹1,999 and ₹3,999 a month with ₹100 a month off on yearly billing, unlimited orders, and a flat ₹10 per order with zero commission. Customers order on your own WhatsApp number through an ordering bot or on a free store page at tezzu.in/store/your-name, with no app to install.

UPI and card payments run through Razorpay, and connecting your own Razorpay account removes the platform fee on payments. Cash on delivery is supported. Delivery zones let you set distance-based charges and a free-delivery threshold per zone, so the delivery cost in the table is covered by the customer where you want it to be. The live dashboard shows orders, revenue and customer insights, which is where you read your real average order value instead of guessing it.

Setup takes about 30 minutes, the WhatsApp Business API is connected through Meta's embedded signup and you keep your number. Every plan starts with a 7-day free trial, and the full fee structure is in Tezzu pricing explained.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate Zomato commission on an order?

Multiply the order value by your contracted commission rate, then add GST on that commission and the payment processing charge on the order. On a ₹400 order at 24 percent commission, the commission is ₹96, GST on it adds about ₹17, and a 2 percent processing charge adds ₹8, for roughly ₹121 or 30 percent of the order. Any discount you funded on that order comes off as well.

What is Zomato's commission percentage for restaurants?

There is no single published rate. Commission is negotiated per restaurant and commonly reported between 18 and 30 percent of order value, with new and small restaurants often at the higher end. The effective cost after GST on commission, processing charges and funded promotions is typically several points higher than the contracted rate, which is why the worksheet starts from your statement rather than from the agreement.

Does this calculator work for Swiggy commission too?

Yes. Swiggy charges in the same structure: a negotiated percentage of order value, GST on that commission, a processing charge on online payments, ads and funded promotions. Use your Swiggy statement for the inputs and the same four steps apply. If you are on both apps, run the worksheet separately for each, since the rates and the promotions you have switched on usually differ.

Should I include GST in the commission calculation?

Include the GST charged on the commission invoice, because it reduces your payout and is a real cost. Whether you can claim it back as input credit depends on your GST registration and scheme, so ask your CA before treating it as recoverable. Do not include the GST on the food itself, which the platform collects from the customer on e-commerce orders and which is not a deduction from your payout.
