Tezzu vs Petpooja: POS-First vs WhatsApp-First

Tezzu vs Petpooja is less a head-to-head and more a question of where your restaurant's centre of gravity sits. Petpooja is a POS-first restaurant management system: billing at the counter, KOT to the kitchen, inventory, reports and aggregator orders flowing into one screen, with online ordering and WhatsApp sold as add-on modules. Tezzu is a WhatsApp-first ordering platform: a bot on your own number and a free store page that bring direct orders in, with dine-in, KOT printing, GST bills and campaigns built around those orders, at ₹10 per order and zero commission.

If the counter is where your business happens and direct online orders are a side channel, Petpooja is the natural fit. If direct orders are the channel you are trying to grow, and you want it to work on WhatsApp without a POS licence underneath, Tezzu is built for that. This post compares the two on positioning, pricing, features and the question most owners actually have: can you run both. For the wider market, see the guide to the best WhatsApp ordering software for restaurants.

What POS-first and WhatsApp-first mean in practice

A POS-first system starts at the billing counter. Every order, whether a walk-in, a phone call or a Zomato ticket, is punched or imported into the POS, which prints the KOT, holds the day's sales, tracks stock and produces reports. Online ordering is a feed into that system. The strength is one source of truth for everything that happens in the restaurant. The cost is that the customer-facing side is often an afterthought, and the online module is one more thing to license.

A WhatsApp-first system starts at the customer's phone. The order is created by the customer in a chat or on a store page, lands in a dashboard, prints a KOT, and the customer gets status updates on the same thread. The strength is adoption: nobody has to learn an app, and your regulars already have the number saved. The limit is scope: it is an ordering and operations tool for direct orders, not a full back-office suite with inventory and recipe costing.

How each product is positioned

Petpooja

Petpooja is one of the most widely used restaurant POS systems in India, sold to everything from single tea stalls to large chains. The core is billing, KOT, menu management, inventory and reporting, with aggregator integration so Zomato and Swiggy orders appear in the same queue as counter orders. Around that core it sells modules: an online ordering website, QR ordering, CRM and loyalty, WhatsApp features, payroll and more. Pricing is an annual subscription per outlet, with modules priced separately; check their pricing page for current figures.

Tezzu

Tezzu connects your WhatsApp number through Meta's embedded signup in about 30 minutes and runs an ordering bot on it. The same menu feeds a store page at tezzu.in/store/your-name, which you can put on a custom domain. Orders land in a live dashboard and a staff app, print as KOTs on a thermal printer and carry GST bills. Dine-in gets QR tables, table numbers and a served status. Pricing is public: ₹999, ₹1,999 or ₹3,999 a month, ₹10 per order, no commission, unlimited orders, 7-day trial on every plan.

A simple way to compare: write down what you would pay Petpooja for the base licence plus the online ordering and WhatsApp modules you would actually switch on, divide by twelve, and set it next to the Tezzu plan plus ₹10 times your monthly direct orders. The post on what small restaurants actually need from POS software helps you decide which modules you would really use.

The honest summary of that table: Petpooja is deeper on the back office, Tezzu is deeper on the direct order. Neither is a substitute for the other's core.

Can you run Petpooja and Tezzu together?

Yes, and many restaurants would. The arrangement is simple: Petpooja stays as the billing and inventory system for the counter and the aggregator queue, and Tezzu runs the direct channel on WhatsApp and the store page. The direct orders print their own KOT from Tezzu, so the kitchen sees them the same way it sees everything else.

Be clear-eyed about the one gap. Tezzu's integrations are Razorpay, Shiprocket and Meta's WhatsApp Business API; it does not push orders into Petpooja. If you need every rupee in one Petpooja report, your cashier keys the direct orders into the POS at the end of the shift, or you reconcile the Tezzu dashboard's revenue figure against the POS day-end. For a single outlet doing a few dozen direct orders a day, that is a five-minute job. For a chain, decide whether one report matters more than the direct channel's adoption.

What you should not do is run two KOT paths in the kitchen without a rule. Decide where direct orders print, tell the kitchen, and keep it that way. The complete KOT system guide covers how to keep tickets from two sources from colliding.

Who should pick which

Petpooja is the better fit when

  • Counter billing, inventory and recipe costing are the problems you are trying to solve.
  • Most of your online volume is Zomato and Swiggy and you want those tickets in the same queue as walk-ins.
  • You are already on Petpooja and only need a basic online ordering page as a module.

Tezzu is the better fit when

  • Growing direct orders is the goal, and your customers already message you on WhatsApp.
  • You want flat, published pricing with no modules to stack: a plan and ₹10 an order.
  • You want dine-in QR tables, delivery zones, pickup points, pre-orders and campaigns without buying each as an add-on.
  • You are a cloud kitchen, tiffin service, cafe or home kitchen that does not need a counter POS at all.

What this looks like on Tezzu

A dine-in customer scans the QR code on the table, which opens your web menu with the table number attached. They order and pay by UPI, or ask to pay at the end. The order shows in the live dashboard and on the staff app with the table number, prints a KOT on your thermal printer, and moves through preparing to served as your staff update it. A delivery customer goes through the same menu on WhatsApp, and the bot handles address, zone charge and payment.

Both kinds of order sit in one dashboard with revenue and customer insights. GST bills are generated from the order, so the customer gets a proper bill without anyone re-keying it. Staff roles control who can see what, and the staff app announces new orders out loud so a busy kitchen does not miss one. The full dine-in setup is covered in dine-in with Tezzu: QR tables, served status and KOT printing, and the pricing detail in Tezzu pricing explained.

Frequently asked questions

Does Petpooja have WhatsApp ordering?

Petpooja sells WhatsApp-related features and an online ordering website as modules on top of its POS. What the ordering flow looks like, whether it runs on your own number through the WhatsApp Business API, and what each module costs are questions to put to their sales team directly, since the modules and their pricing change over time.

Is Tezzu a POS?

No. Tezzu is a WhatsApp-first ordering platform with the operations pieces that direct orders need: KOT and thermal printing, GST bills, dine-in with QR tables and served status, delivery zones, pickup points and a staff app. It does not do walk-in counter billing, inventory or recipe costing. Restaurants that need those keep a POS alongside it.

Can Tezzu orders go into Petpooja?

Not automatically. Tezzu integrates with Razorpay for payments, Shiprocket for shipping and Meta for WhatsApp, and does not push orders into Petpooja. If you need one consolidated POS report, key direct orders into the POS at day-end or reconcile against the Tezzu dashboard's revenue figure. For most single outlets this takes a few minutes a day.

Which is cheaper for a small restaurant?

For a restaurant whose main need is direct online orders, Tezzu is usually simpler to cost: from ₹999 a month plus ₹10 per order, with no commission. A POS subscription plus online ordering and WhatsApp modules will typically be a larger annual figure, but it buys billing and inventory as well. Price the modules you would actually use and compare.
