Sending Your First WhatsApp Campaign From Tezzu

Tezzu campaigns let you send one WhatsApp message to many of your customers from the same number they order on: a weekend offer, a new menu, a festival pre-order. You top up a prepaid wallet, choose who receives the message, write it as a template that Meta approves, and send or schedule it. The wallet is charged as messages are delivered, and orders that follow show up in the same dashboard.

This guide is the first-campaign version. It assumes you have been taking orders for a few weeks, so you have a customer list built from real orders, and it walks through the four steps in order, with the cost arithmetic at the end so there are no surprises on the wallet.

What a campaign is, and what it is not

A campaign is a business-initiated message. Unlike a reply to a customer who just messaged you, it goes out to people who have not written to you today, so Meta treats it as a marketing conversation and charges for it. Tezzu sends it through your connected number, which means the customer sees the same name they ordered from, and can reply or tap through to order straight away.

It is not a WhatsApp group or a broadcast list from the phone app. There is no 256-contact limit, no need for customers to save your number, and no risk to your personal account. The differences are laid out in groups vs broadcasts vs API campaigns. The trade-off is that campaign messages must be pre-approved templates and cost money per message.

Step 1: Top up the campaign wallet

Campaigns run from a prepaid wallet that is separate from your plan subscription. Add money to it from the campaigns section of the dashboard before you create the first campaign; a campaign will not start if the wallet cannot cover it. The wallet is debited per message as Meta confirms delivery, so a message that is never delivered, because the number is no longer on WhatsApp, is not charged.

For a first campaign to a few hundred customers, a top-up of a few hundred rupees is enough; see the cost table below for the arithmetic. The wallet also covers any transactional templates that are billable, and the billing explainer shows how wallet charges, the plan and the per-order charge sit side by side.

Step 2: Choose who receives it

Your customer list on Tezzu is built from orders, so everyone on it has bought from you and messaged your number. That is the right list for a first campaign: people who know you, have your number in their chats, and need a reason to order again rather than an introduction.

Keep the first send small, 100 to 300 customers, and recent, customers who ordered in the last two or three months. A smaller, warmer list gets more orders per rupee and protects your number's quality rating, which Meta tracks from how many people block or report you. Save the lapsed customers for a separate win-back message once you have seen how the first one performs.

Do not import numbers you bought or scraped. They have not opted in, they will report you, and the quality rating that drops is attached to the number your orders come in on.

Step 3: Write a template that gets approved

Campaign messages are templates reviewed by Meta before they can be sent. Approval is usually quick when the message is plain, specific and clearly from a business the recipient knows. A first template that tends to pass:

Hi {{1}}, this weekend at Sharma's Kitchen: free delivery on orders above ₹399, Friday to Sunday. Order on WhatsApp or at {{2}}. Reply STOP to opt out.

The placeholders fill in the customer's name and your store link. Four rules keep templates out of the rejection pile: no all-caps or strings of emojis, no vague "click here" with a shortened link, a clear reason the recipient is getting it, and an opt-out line. The full checklist is in how to get a template approved the first time.

Three first-campaign ideas that work with a real offer behind them:

Free delivery weekend

Pair it with a per-zone free-delivery threshold set slightly above your average order value, so the offer lifts basket size rather than giving delivery away.

New item launch

One photo, one item, one price, one link. Launch messages get replies, so have someone watching the dashboard chat that evening.

Coupon that auto-applies

Create a coupon in the dashboard that applies itself at checkout, and mention it in the template. Nobody has to type a code, and you can see in the orders list exactly which orders came from the campaign.

Step 4: Send or schedule, then read the results

Choose the audience, pick the approved template, fill any placeholders, and either send now or schedule it. Timing matters more than wording: an offer message at 11 am lands before lunch decisions, and one at 6:30 pm lands before dinner. Avoid late nights.

Once sending starts, the campaign screen shows how many messages are queued, sent and delivered, and the wallet balance moving as deliveries are confirmed. If a send is interrupted, it can be resumed from where it stopped without sending anyone a duplicate. Then watch the orders list for the next few hours. If you used an auto-applied coupon, filter on it; if not, compare the day's orders against a normal day.

A realistic first result for a warm list of 200 customers is a handful of orders the same evening. Treat that as a baseline, send a second campaign ten days later, and compare. The method for tracking this over time is in measuring WhatsApp marketing ROI.

What a campaign costs

Meta charges per message for marketing conversations, with a rate for India that it publishes and changes from time to time. Tezzu passes this through the wallet; the plan subscription does not include campaign messages. Use Meta's current rate from its pricing page in the formula below.

AudienceMessagesWallet costOrders needed to cover it at ₹100 margin per order
Warm list, first send200200 times Meta's per-message rateRoughly 2 to 3 at typical Indian marketing rates
Full active list1,0001,000 times the rateRoughly 10 to 15
Monthly, four sends4,0004,000 times the rateRoughly 40 to 60 across the month

The table deliberately leaves the rate as a variable. At the rates Meta has published for India, a message costs less than a rupee, and the right-hand column is what matters: a campaign to 200 warm customers pays for itself with two or three orders, which is a low bar for an offer with a real reason behind it. Undelivered messages are not charged.

What this looks like on Tezzu

The campaigns section of the dashboard holds the wallet, your templates and your sent campaigns. Creating a campaign is a short form: name, audience, template, placeholders, send now or schedule. The wallet balance and the number of recipients are visible before you confirm, so you can see the maximum spend.

During and after the send, the campaign shows queued, sent and delivered counts per recipient. Customers who reply land in the dashboard chat alongside their orders, and customers who tap the store link order through the same store page and WhatsApp bot as always, so campaign orders arrive in the live dashboard and on the staff app like any other order. Coupons that auto-apply and promo banners on the store page can be set up in the same session so the offer is visible everywhere a customer looks.

On the Growth plan, campaigns sit alongside WhatsApp Status posts and Click-to-WhatsApp ads, which reach people who are not yet customers. Campaigns are the last step in the Tezzu setup playbook, after your menu, payments and zones are live.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a WhatsApp campaign cost per message in India?

Meta sets a per-message rate for marketing conversations in India and publishes it on its pricing page; it has changed over time, so check the current figure. Tezzu charges that rate from a prepaid wallet as messages are delivered, with nothing charged for undelivered messages. Your plan subscription does not include campaign messages, and there is no per-campaign fee on top.

Can I send a WhatsApp broadcast to customers who have not messaged me?

Only if they have agreed to hear from you. Customers who ordered from your number have messaged you and are the right audience. Numbers you bought or collected without consent should not be used; they lead to blocks and reports that lower your number's quality rating, which can restrict how many people you can message. Build the list from orders and explicit opt-ins.

Why was my WhatsApp template rejected?

The usual reasons are vague wording, a shortened or bare link with no context, all-caps or heavy emoji use, placeholders at the start or end of the message, or content that reads like spam. Rewrite it as a plain sentence a known business would send, include a specific offer and a store link, add an opt-out line, and resubmit. Most rewritten templates pass on the second attempt.

How many customers should my first campaign go to?

Between 100 and 300 customers who ordered in the last two to three months. A small, recent list gives you a clear read on response, costs little from the wallet, and protects your quality rating while you learn what your customers respond to. Expand to the full active list once a first send has produced orders.
